Enterprise Causeway Generates Over £6 Return for Every £1 Invested
A newly published Social Value Report has revealed that Enterprise Causeway continues to deliver significant impact across the Causeway Coast and Glens, generating £6.34 in social value for every £1 invested during the 2024–2025 period.
The independent evaluation, carried out by Rose Regeneration, highlights the organisation’s role as a key driver of economic growth, community development and wellbeing throughout the region. Using the Social Value Engine methodology, the report found Enterprise Causeway created more than £8 million in total social value over the year.
Strong performance and high impact
The £6.34 return places Enterprise Causeway well within the UK Government’s “very high value for money” category, which applies to projects delivering returns above £4 for every £1 invested.
The report attributes this strong performance to a wide range of activities supporting businesses, individuals and communities. Key outcomes include:
Supporting over 230 businesses through enterprise hubs and programmes
Assisting the creation of 164 new micro-enterprises
Delivering training and mentoring to help people enter or progress in employment
Improving wellbeing through arts, culture and community initiatives
Strengthening networks and reducing social isolation Supporting jobs and local enterprise
Enterprise Causeway’s network of enterprise hubs continues to play a central role in the local economy, supporting more than 100 tenant businesses and over 350 jobs, while contributing in excess of £50 million annually to the regional economy.
By providing affordable workspace and tailored business support, the organisation is helping entrepreneurs and small businesses start, grow and remain rooted in their communities—particularly in rural and coastal areas where access to resources can be limited.
Beyond economic value
The report highlights that Enterprise Causeway’s impact extends well beyond business growth. Its programmes have contributed to improved quality of life for many individuals, including:
Increased confidence, skills and employability
Greater social connection, with over 1,500 people benefiting from networking opportunities
Reduced isolation through inclusive community initiatives
Enhanced mental health and wellbeing through arts and cultural participation
These outcomes align closely with key United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including Decent Work and Economic Growth, Good Health and Wellbeing, and Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure.
Real impact in local communities
Case studies featured in the report demonstrate how Enterprise Causeway’s work translates into tangible results on the ground. Local businesses such as food producers and creative entrepreneurs have successfully scaled operations, accessed new markets and built sustainable livelihoods with the organisation’s support.
Community initiatives including arts programmes, networking events and cross-community partnerships have also helped strengthen relationships, build confidence and foster inclusion across the region.
A long-term commitment to inclusive growth
Established in 1984, Enterprise Causeway operates as a not-for-profit social enterprise, reinvesting income from its activities back into local business development and community programmes. This model enables the organisation to deliver lasting benefits while responding to local needs.
The report concludes that Enterprise Causeway’s work demonstrates how targeted, place-based support can unlock local potential, strengthen communities and create sustainable economic growth.
As the region continues to navigate economic and social challenges, the findings underline the importance of organisations that combine enterprise support with community-focused initiatives to drive inclusive and resilient development.
