Causeway U3A
Celebrating Lifelong Learning – Where Curiosity Never Retires
Since its establishment in 1995, Causeway U3A has been helping retired and semi-retired people stay active, connected, and engaged through lifelong learning. What began with just eight members in the Triangle area of Coleraine, Portrush, and Portstewart has grown into one of the largest U3A groups in Northern Ireland, with a membership of more than 1,400 people.
Guided by the national U3A motto of Learn, Laugh, Live, the organisation provides an impressive range of opportunities for members to explore new interests, develop skills, and build meaningful social connections.
The variety of activities available reflects the diverse interests of its members. Interest groups cover subjects such as art, history, photography, astronomy, creative writing, languages, and music, while physical activity groups include walking, dancing, Pilates, Tai Chi, and table tennis. Alongside these regular activities, members can take part in day trips, holidays, social events, and special interest gatherings throughout the year.
A key part of Causeway U3A’s success has been its strong partnerships with local organisations, including Ulster University, the Causeway School of Music, Library Services NI, and Enterprise Causeway. Through these collaborations, members can access an even wider range of educational, cultural, and social opportunities.
Enterprise Causeway has been pleased to support Causeway U3A by providing facilities at its Coleraine headquarters and through participation in various community initiatives. Over the years, many members have engaged with arts and heritage programmes connected to the Courthouse project, taking part in painting workshops, storytelling sessions, creative activities, and events celebrating International Women’s Day and International Men’s Day.
Nearly three decades after its formation, Causeway U3A continues to demonstrate the value of active ageing and lifelong learning. By creating opportunities for people to learn, connect, and contribute, the organisation plays a vital role in supporting wellbeing, friendship, and personal development across the Causeway Coast community.
As membership continues to grow, Causeway U3A remains committed to helping people embrace new experiences, discover new passions, and truly live by its guiding principle: Learn, Laugh, Live.
